The only problem is that "View from Heaven" is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. First of all, it's meant to be sound like a bluegrass song, I just want to say something about this, I won't touch your opinion of the song, because it's just that: your opinion. Bluegrass and country are two very different types of music. "The 'Naked at School' Dream" has a bluegrass feel, "View from Heaven" is closer to country.

So now is Ryan not only Mr. Savvy political guy that's telling people how to vote in Rolling Stone, but he's also a theologian. I don't believe in heaven and I don't care what happens to me when I die, because I can't... I'm dead. If he thinks that everyone should believe in what he does, then he truly is an egomaniac. Heaven is right up there with the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus; something that you tell kids so they're not as afraid or dying or losing their loved ones. If you believe in an afterlife along those lines, that's fine, but I'm not going to write a song saying that we should all believe in rotting in a casket six feet under ground because that wouldn't make for a very good song, whether I think it's true or not. I don't push my belief's off on other people, especially not in the context of a supposed pop song. Ryan sucks, his whiny voice sucks, and so does his songwriting. And to think that people on the Yellowcard message board are constantly saying that this is one of the best songs they've ever heard and it makes them cry to listen to it. How warped and obsessed can you possibly be to think that this crap is actually music? Talk about insensitive comments. You know it's possible to not believe in God, but still mature and caring about it. I don't believe in the Christian God either, but the day Scott passed away I was so touched I prayed and completely understood why people became so spiritual eventhough it countered my beliefs. I don't like Ryan's song either, but he's not imposing his beliefs on anyone. He's not a public institution imposing religion on people. He's a person expressing his freedom of speech. It's quite absurd to give him a hard time about it. The end. (Almost there Ben!)

Scott's got some good points.I do believe in God,but even if I didn't I wouldn't see it as Ryan trying to get me to.He's just expressing his beliefs through music, and we might not like it,but it's just what he chooses to write about.

Yeah, plus Ryan never says anything about God, just heaven. Heaven, or the afterlife, is a pretty common belief among people of many religions, so it's easily identifiable. That's why so many people love the song.

and there's no contradiction for an atheist to believe in a heaven on earth. It is your assumption that heaven means some paradise behind the clouds. I'm pretty sure Jesus wasn't talking about disneyland in the sky but rather that we are all gods, not in the sense of an all mighty christian God, but that inside us all we can find heaven. So there are other views besides "YES! there is a god" and "NO! there isn't a god!" Those are 2 sides to the same coin. so i12rules and ryan really depend on each other to validate their own positions.

Whatever, I wasn't trying to start a religious debate so I'm not even going to get involved in that... as far as being insensitive goes, well fuck that. That's a bullshit word and if I feel like I'm telling it like it is, then I'm going to whether it's sensitive or not.
I'm sorry that you think bluegrass is shit. I happen to think it's kind of cool even though mainstream country music sucks pretty bad. I don't think that song sounds too country sounding with the double time drum beat, but I'm not the expert. Maybe you should enlighten us all on the differences between bluegrass and country since you know so much. I'm not trying to make enemies on this board so I hope I didn't say anything that pissed anybody off, but I cannot stand that song and it is truly one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Come to think of it, it's really not so much country or bluegrass as it is a really bad R.E.M. rip off.... which would be alternative folk I guess. Either way, it's the worst song ever and the girl singing back up is tone-deaf.

Who cares. Bluegrass and Country are both shit. How incredibly open-minded of you. You're so wise.

All i've ever said has been speculative and i've been quite open about that. I like both bands very much but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I just think you're a bit stupid.

How incredibly open-minded of you. You're so wise. Well, thats just my opinion. But seriously. Most people are only listening to bluegrass because its the only genre thats left that is 'underground'. you people would listen to polka if bluegrass got mainstream. If you genuinely listen to bluegrass because you like it, then fine. but as I see it, its just a trend.

Well, some would say that punk is just a "trend" and that's the only reason some people listen to it. In fact, Yellowcard is just a trend.

lets not loose the focus here, which is ryan is constantly ripping off dan and getting famous for it. i can't really tell if this was posted before or not (sorry if i'm repeating this) but not only did ryan steal dan's lyrics for avondale, but ryan also stole dan's country-punk-rock style for "view from heaven." even though ocean avenue was technically released before get rad, get rad was long done and recorded before ocean avenue was. i'm sure ryan heard atleast a rough version of "naked at school dream" and decided to turn it into his very own with "view from heaven." because he's such a bastard. and on a side note, i ran into ryan at a show a while back and it just so happened that my band was playing the next night. i decided to invite him, while he was still intown, just to see what kind of answer i got........ ryan said he couldn't make it out to my show because he was probly going to go to a party.

Though the subject of this thread has digressed greatly, I thought I'd post this from the old message board:
Q: What’s the story behind ‘Doppelganger’ & Yellowcards ‘Avondale’?
Dan: Ryan and I have been friends since we were 14 or 15 - a year and a half ago we got into this huge not talking to one another fight (like girls do sometimes, no offense ladies) and we kept it going for like eight months. So, yes it is true. We're fine now.
