Hey Dan or anyone who could help me out... I've been wondering for awhile now what the meaning behind the doppleganger lyrics " So pull your knife out of my back. inventiveness is what you lack and I won't stand for this disloyalty." and the lyrics to avondale "it all went to his head this royalty i stuck a knife into his back inventiveness is what i lack he's always hanging up on loyalty." I've read online about a fight between Dan and Ryan and this may be rude but I was just wondering if anyone could let me know anything about what happened between the two of them.
Thanks, Eric

I'm not sure exactly what happened with the falling out, but Dan's lyrics are a whole hell of alot better than Ryan's reply. Ryan's lyrics suck... as well as his voice.

from what i understand, dan wrote doppleganger long before the feud...after it started, ryan read the lyrics to doppleganger and wrote a song that was sort of an answer to it, hence the king of avondale
of course, my information on the situation is very limited, and i may very well be wrong. those who have been fans longer than i have can correct me as they see fit

there are a number of different things that happenned back in the day.
Inspection 12 started a couple of years before yellowcard. Before Ryan was in Yellowcard he played in some other bands. Anyone that was friends with all those guys knew that Ryan always wanted to be like Dan. He basically emulated him from the start.
Dan wrote those lyrics long before Avondale came out. Plus like the previous post says, all Ryan did was pretty much repeat the lyrics in his song.
Dan nor Ryan nor anyone from either band will post on thsi subject most likely. Because it was so fing long ago, no one is upset or anything. What exactly are they talking about? I coudl guess a couple of little things, but who knows.
Doppleganger rules though. Dan pretty much sums it up at the end when he says "And I can smell the avarice." Avarice is one of the seven deadly sins (jealousy)

actually, avarice is not really jealousy, but greed

avarice: insatiable desire for wealth or gain
sounds like dan smelled yellowcard's success years ago. And that's how i felt when One for the Kids came out. I said, shit, these dicks are copying inspection 12's sound and taking it out to california where nobody knows of inpsection 12. And guess, what, it worked just as planned.

how is it that Ryan and Dan still get along then? I mean, Ryan sang on Get Rad.

The Underdog EP came out in 2002; which means the song was written before then. Ryan and Dan are both all grown up and are obviously mature enough to forget the past and not hold grudes.

i'm sure Dan is but who knows with Ryan. The limited experience I have with him tells me he isn't the greatest guy.
one of my buds worked with him at a restaurant or fast food joint or something like that and they were friendly, but as soon as YC got the inkling of fame (pre-MTV) Ryan woukd ignore him and pretend he didn't know who he was. and when they first got on MTV2, he had such a fake presence in interviews. He was too cool for school.

i get a kick outta the fact that avondale was written before view from heaven. I also hate the lyric, "life aint no fairy tale" I'm sure after losing Scotty, Dan thought life was a fairy tale.
what a dick....

ok, it was more important for ryan to write a song bashing Dan, then it was for him to write a tribute song to Scott. I guess he can be saved if he did that on purpose because he wanted view from heaven on the capitol release. Either way, I don't see how that's a bad point. Maybe you can fill me in on the things I don't get.
