Have y'all heard it yet? I got it today and i think its rather good. The songs are much bigger, more rock less punk. I like it. The accompanying DVD is pretty sweet also. Any thoughts?

I like it, but suprisingly my two favorite songs are the B-Sides "When We're Old Men" and "Three Flights Down". Pete wrote the lattar, and it's phenomenal.

you can hear pete influence throughout the album, ie when you hear something like i12, well, that's prolly pete, especially the little breakdown in #8 waiting game.
I think it sounds a bit mainstream though. I wish the producer would stop using his blink 182 guitar effects, dunno it's just old.

I agree, Lights and Sounds is an amazing album. How many b-sides from the Lights and Sounds sessions did you get to hear, and how did you get them? Thanks, I'm interested in hearing them.

"When We're Old Men" is one of the B-Sides, and that is on the Lights and Sounds single CD, which you can find in any store. "Three Flights Down" was available as a free download when you pre-ordered the album from iTunes. I think you can purchase it now as a single song on iTunes. I could be wrong though.

Ryan gets the exclusive credit for "Three Flights Up" (on my disc, the lyrics of the song are printed on the inside of the case).

That's "Three Flights Up", which is an instrumental, no lyrics. The lyrics on your case are to "Three Flights Down", and Ryan gets credit for lyrics. He didn't write the music.

they rarely credit who writes the music, just who writes the lyrics

I thought that "Lights and Sounds" was a TREMENDOUS leap from "Ocean Avenue". I can't wait for the next album. This one far exceeded any expectations I had.
I would have liked for one song to be a bit faster...but I still enjoyed the rock band they're turning into.

they rarely credit who writes the music, just who writes the lyrics you are probably right. for the rest of the songs, they lsited ryan and pete as writing the music with ryan writing all of the lyrics. I imagine on Three Flights Down, since the song isn't actually on the cd at all, they only listed who wrote the lyrics. That said, I'd still like to know how you knwo that Pete wrote it.

A little birdie told me. Plus if you LISTEN to the musicality of the songs closely, you can definitely tell which ones pete had the most input on.

oh, I completely agree with you on being able to guess which ones he had his hand in most, but it would be nice to know if the guesses are right. That's why I was asking.
Didn't mean to pry, but it is possible that Ryan has picked up a few songwriting tendencies from Pete (and Dan). If it was a guess like mine that Pete had written it, then I thought it might have been premature to announce on the board.

Lucky for me I've never had a problem with premature anything.
