Hey I was just wondering what everybody thinks of the new Green Day album? I think it is amazing, Green Day's best. I know that Green Day has been an influence for a ton of different bands, including I-12, so maybe there are a few Green Day fans here. I've been a fan of them since 3rd grade and think they are amazing. One of my favorite bands of all time. So what do you guys think of the album American Idiot, not the single?

their best? i'll have to see about that. i love green day but haven't gotten the new one yet. i might go by best buy this weekend and get it. they were my first punk band (like a lot of people) and were my favorite all through middle school. i listened to them pretty exclusively.

Green Day's definitely one of my biggest influences ever. I know that I can say the same for Dan, cuz he and I grew up completely loving everything that they did. Tre was a HUGE inspiration for me as a drummer. About the new album....it's absolutely incredible. I listened to it last night the whole way through with headphones while reading the lyrics, and its almost like reading a play or something. It blows me away that people can be so good at music...Billie Joe is a freakin' genious for sure. It's definitely one of the best cd's I've heard in a long time. Tre's drums are amazing as usual...and the whole things pretty much a masterpiece.

The new Green Day is great, but what else did you expect? Seriously, I celebrate their entire catalogue ;-) I agree with you, Tim, how can any group be so damn good? I don't know, but Green Day definitely is. It's ridiculous how sweet all their albums are. Each one has its own unique character and style, but is kickass regardless. Their first two albums are good and everything, but I think that Dookie has the raw edge of a band finally given the production values they deserve. Insomniac rocks harder than Dookie and showcases a band rebelling against their newfound fame. As for Nimrod, well, I think the band pretty much did whatever the hell they wanted to do. Harmonica parts? Hell yes! Sappy acoustic ballad? OHH YEAH! Anyway, Warning was a detour to some, but to me it was just a bunch of stripped down Green Day songs with increasingly mature lyrics. Green Day American Idiot takes this maturity about a hundred steps further. Simply, it rocks.

wow.
i just got it and listened to it all the way though like tim. it is like a play. i was skeptical when green day first announced that their next record would be a concept album with rock operas, but that's what makes it great. they recently announced that there might be a movie based on the it soon. i was skeptical of that too. now that i've heard it, i feel like it could work.

I think that everyone listened to this album just like Tim described. Any album that can do that is phenomenal. Billie Joe is a genius.

Yea, I have listened to Green Day for as long as I remember listening to music. They are on of my favorite bands. As for American Idiot, I really liked it but I didn't think that it was their best. I've always been impartial to Dookie... -Josh

Why does everyone try to compare it to "Dookie"? If you expect a band to make the same record twice, you're wasting your time. Of course it's no "Dookie"....It's definitely "American Idiot" though.

Billy Joe talks a bit in German, you know "Sieg heil...blah blah". Is that the bit you're confused about?
I think its something about Hitler.

I asked my mum to translate it because she has a degree in German. Apparently he says 'Heil leader Hitler, for he brought forth wonderful ideas on evolution and race relations'
Can you believe Green Day have nazi sympathies?
