See I told you!! Anyone who hasn't checked out the Hoobastank performance owes it to themselves to check that shit out. If you think you have to be a great singer to be famous and have a hit song, you don't. I think on like the third line of the song his voice cracks really bad. It's amazing. Later.

Ok, for starters. hoobastank was an embarassment to live performances a few nights ago. ive seen them in the past on tv and they werent very good either. he just cant hit the high notes that he can on cd. and when i say high notes, i mean every note.
as far as yellowcard goes. it sucks that Pete is basically a key's shadow because as far as i knew, he had a huge part in writing that whole album and to see ryan act so suprised, only to pull out his prepared speech and cry like a girl and say, "i want to thank this person and that person" made me cry myself. but they werent tears of joy thats for sure. yellowcards videos suck hard which make the song hard to listen to. i saw only one for the first time a few days ago. what a sap fest typical video that was. i think ryan should have thanked sean for that award as im positive yellowcard never would have even left a dent on the scene if it wasnt for the novel fact they had a violin in the band. nothing other than that seperates them from every other pop punk band in the market.
btw, liking a band because they a) are from your home town, and b) thanked your hometown is super lame.
don't get me wrong, im happy for them and all. but im less happy for ryan, and more for the rest of the band especially Pete.
At least Craigs Brother still keeps it real.

I do agree that the violin is sort of their gimmick... Sean's a great player, but sometimes it just seems wierd in that setting. That's pretty much the first thing you hear when someone mentions YC is that it's so unique because they have a violin. I'm an electric guitarist and do not feel like I could rock out on a violin... it just doesn't look right. But it does seem to be helping them get attention... I wonder what new manifestations we'll be seeing from this... maybe a death metal band with an accordian? Or how about a hip hop sound with banjo? Only time will tell.

i just dont like violins being so prominent in the song. i dont need to hear a violin playing the melody. it just sounds weird. if youre gonna do a nice arrangement like in say, back and forth by craigs brother, which sean does play on, then i can understand that. it fits the song. but just hearing violins constantly doesnt make me think yellowcard is good. when you ask a lot of people why yellowcard is so great, the only thing they can come up with is that the violin is cool. thats not much of an argument because in my opinion, (though i think its a very valid argument) the violin does nothing to add to the music. it just sounds like an out of tune guitar playing octaves. its really nothing special. i feel sean is much better served as a backup vocalist for that band. thats where i notice him the most. not to mention live, you dont even hear the violins at all. youre too busy staring at the man of stone ryan key glued to the microphone like he was the singer from tilt.

OK, this is a completely 100% not a I hate yellowcard post, well.. it's more just an observation... Yellowcard started as a real punk band... had no lineup changes or anything until Ryan joined the band.. and when Ryan joined, Todd got dropped, by the way, and Ryan takes credit for writing Drifting, Todd wrote that.. not Ryan..
Ok, so then Warren gets dropped like a Middleburg High english class, no offense to you middleburg people... Now, I know the whole story about the Warren situation, and anybody that knew Yellowcard knew Warren was the heart of that band, Warren worked his ass off for that band, and got dropped for completely bogus reasons..
ok.. then there was Alex, now I'm all for Pete being in yellowcard, but the way Alex got screwed over is just wrong... now, bands change members we all know that.. but to have Alex, tour, play TV appearances, added to their bio as their new bassist, then to tell him, well you were never really apart of the band anyway, or "we never told him, he was a permanent member", is really fucked up...
Just as mentioned before I think the so called glam of being the lead singer of a semi popular band, has gone to his head.. he says they are not a punk band, then he says they are... when it looks good for them.. reminds me of Avril Lavigne.. so, i'll solve this one.. Yellowcard is a punk band... Ryan is not.. because Yellowcard and Ryan Key are two different things. Yellowcard was a band before Ryan and as I think everybody will eventually see, Yellowcard will be a band after him.
Ryan is a backstreet boy that was raised on NOFX, but I'll give credit where credit is due.. Yellowcard and even Ryan's work ethic is second to none, nobody goes out and plays shows like they do, like 200+ a year, and I'm not even going to knock the material that comes out of the band.. because I enjoy a good bit of the Yellowcard material.. and as a fan of yellowcard, I wish somebody would slap some sense into Ryan, because Ryan and all the bullshit band politics that he brings will be the downfall of that band..
oh yea, I'd go put this on the yellowcard board, but most of the kids over there don't understand big words, and love the band because they think Ryan is cute.. when they graduate high school and can understand what real music is, and can have civilized conversations without using I love Ryan or Ryan is hot, in the convo... I'll talk to them.. wait.. a year from now the kids won't remember who Yellowcard is, since their attention spans are measured in nanoseconds......good things.

ok,i agree with ur post justin.now,im 14 years old,so i know im just a kid to most of ur people, but im not like all the younger people over on the yellowcard board.i can appreciate good music, thats why im on this board.also, ive liked yellowcard for 5 whole years, cuz my brother introduced me to them when i was 9.ive listened to that band for all those years, and i can see the direction they are going in every time they release a new record.I could perfectly tell after the underdog e.p. came out that something would be changing with their next album.of course it did.they are now 1 of the most well-known bands in the world.im not saying i dont like their music, cuz it is still very good to listen to.its just its way overplayed now,the only time i wanna hear a song is when i have it on my cd player, not in the clothing section of wal-mart.with that being said, yellowcard needs to re-trace their roots and go back to the music that decent people actually wanna listen to.end of story.

Well, I didn't watch the VMA's cause MTV always just pisses me off but now I wish I had at least seen what all this is about.... I agree that Ryan gets a lot of attention in YC which isn't quite fair...In Hoobastanks defense.... I watched the link thank you Matt and yes that was absolutely horrifying!!! BUT... I saw them live in Houston at BuzzFest at the beginning of the year and they were incredible! One of the best live shows I've ever seen. He sang the Reason and it actually sounded really good... so I don't know what his problem was that night or maybe the show I saw was just a fluke. He also sang Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in a very high pitched voice it was hilarious! Lucy

Damn, what the hell is wrong with Ryan? Yeah he looked a bit silly with his MTV award but fair play to the bloke they won an award at a massive award ceremony thing. I love all the Yellowcard boys. Yay for them. ;D
