Thanks man!I have a premier XPK set. I've had it for a pretty long time, and want to get a new set in the not too distant future, and also keep that set, cuz I love it. I used a different snare on the recording of Get Rad....I used one of those Pearl Chad Smith signature snares...they're not really that expensive or anything, but Paul had one in the studio and suggested I use it. We got it sounding pretty good. I also use zildjian new beat hi-hats, and all of my other cymbals are Sabian (a 16" crash, 18" AA crash, 21" dry ride, 10" aax splash, and a china that i forget the size).
Also, I went to George's after you told me about that DVD, and they were out of it....i was so bummed. But then I ordered the Buddy Rich Jazz Legends DVD, and its sooo good! I'm still gonna try to get the one that you said, and I suggest that Buddy Rich dvd. Part 2 of it is unreal (part 1 is awesome too). It actually shows him play one song at the Jacksonville Jazz fest, which I thought was really cool!

those Zildjian New Beat Hi-Hats are amazing, so crisp and clear, and nice solid sound...but they cost soooooooo much (like around $249.99 new) but you can't really put a price on the same hats that Ginger Baker AND John Bonham use, can you? i think since this is a drumming forum, any drummers on the board should post their equipment list up on the board and what band they're in (if they're in one) i've got a Tama 3-Piece...removed the snare they gave me and replaced it with a Pearl Birch Picollo 2 Zildjian A Series 17" Rock Crashes Zildjian ZBT 20" Ride (i should get a better one, but the bell is just so big and beautiful...that sounded weird...) Zildjian ZBT 16" Crash (i know it sounds like a crappy buy, but it actually delivers a full splash sound) Zildjian A Series 10" Splash The New Beat Hi-Hats Sabian AA China (i forgot the size too) Also, as a side note...check out this local band "Escher" at www.escherrock.com. They just got signed to a development deal with Vision Sounds and their new demo sounds amazing. They play locally around Jacksonville for now, but are touring soon with the release of their debut CD. Sign their guestbook too! P.S. My band's name is Cypress...you've probably never heard of us, but we're Pop/Rock. Like if O.A.R. did an Inspection 12 cover...or vice versa. You can check us out at www.cypressrock.tk or www.purevolume.com/cypress. Why don't you add us to your links page, Tim?

3 piece Pearl Forum with a vintage sparkle tom (not sure what make).
8" Zildjian ZBT Splash 13" Zildjian ZBT HiHats 14" Zildjian Razor Edge China 16" Sabian B8 Crash 18" Zildjian ZBT Crash/Ride 20" Zildjian Avedis Crash/Ride

I think you guys are accidentally saying 3-piece when you mean 4-piece. The snare drum is always including when talking about that. The 4 piece setup is the most popular right now, with the hi and low tom, snare drum and bass drum.
Just tryin to clear it up for those that don't play drums.

yea, but I didn't buy the snare with it...i bought THREE pieces (bass drum, rack tom and floor tom) and i bought a picollo snare to go with it...i never bought the snare that came with it...hence the three-piece description.

I second that.
3 of my drums (bass, floor & snare) are Pearl and my tom is a vintage drum (not by Pearl), which is why I said:
3 piece Pearl "WITH" vintage tom (not 4 piece Pearl).
And it's called a floor tom, not a low tom.

It's only called a floor tom if it sits on the floor, not everyone's does, like mine is a low rack tom. But thanks for clearing that up about the 3 piece.

I play a Yamaha DP series kit set up as a four piece because like Tim i like to set up my kit like my idols ;D It was the very bottom of the range Yamaha kit 4 years ago when i bought it but this baby sounds sweet as heck still!
My band is actually recording at this very moment and i'm borrowing some cymbals off a friend to make my set up much better. I'm recording with the following stuff:
14" Zildjian Quickbeat Hi Hats 18" Sabian AA Medium Thin Crash 19" Zildjian A Custom Projection Crash 20" Zildjian A Rock Ride 18" Zildjian A China Low
Only the Sabian crash is mine. All my other cymbals are old crap but i don't have the patience to save up for more!
I'm really surprised that its a Chad Smith on Get Rad! The snare on the whole album sounds really fat and woody, not like a 5" deep snappy metal drum! Shows what you can do with some interesting tuning and mics!
I'll post some of the stuff my band record when its all done in the next couple of weeks ;D

you know what makes the drums on Get RAd kick ass??? it's the fact that everytime i listen to them i notice something new. i notice some little symbol tap, or a small fill, or some off beat technique. seriously, EVERYtime that i really "study" get rad i notice some new stuff that i didn't before. Tim you rocked. that is what is great about I12 is that they satisify the melody hungery part of me, as well as the complex cravings that i get.

tim. dude you were right, this topic is getting out of control. hmm let me think of some sick drumming real quick. there is this one local band called LEARNING TO FALL, man that drummer is incredible.. hahaha. just kidding, he's actually no good at all. (thats me for all that don't know) okay, so good drums. Josh Freese, Chad Sexton, Mike Marsh, Travis Barker.... but all those have been mentioned.
I'm a big fan of Jose Pasillas from Incubus, he always finds cool notes to add splashes and hat accents, and i dig very much.
James Ulrich of Over It, this dude plays super fast and still finds a way to be super creative.
Jason Burrows, this guy use to play in Unsung Zeros and anyone who has heard the cd Moments from Mourning, knows that this guy can play.
thats all i can really think of for now, but i'm sure there are about a million more.
the kit i play with Learning to Fall is a 2002 Premier Cabria w/ topaz lacquer. 22"bass 14"snare w/ active snare system.... get this! it makes the drum sound so unbelieveable. 12"tom 16"floor
cymbals. sabian all the way. 10" AA china splash 14" AA hats 15" AAX china 16" AAX studio crash 18" AA crash 20" AA rock ride w/ 7"ice bell
okay this is getting way too long. let me know what you guys think.

Just thought i'd mention pretty much entirely at random two more awesome ska punk drummers...well i don't know their names but the drummer from Suicide Machines and the guy from Attaboy Skip. Both massive influences and shit hot drummers. Also Will Taylor, the drummer for Incoherence ( www.herence.co.uk ) is by far and away the best drummer i've ever seen in a UK band. Check them out if you're in to slightly off kilter hardcore with awesome pop/cock rock sensibilities. Nice.

Speaking of drum sets.... I just want to know if anyone has played the new compact Roland TD-3 electronic set, and if they have an opinion on it. I'm moving and I had to pack up my acoustic set, but I will not have the freedom that I have had here to play like I want to, so I am looking at electronics to at least let me play, before I go nuts. I know that the compact version is smaller and it has limited options for play and upgrades, but as of right now I am low on funds and I can't commit to a huge investment (and I just want to play). I know that the step up will have the real like snare head and much more capabilities now and in the future, but I wouldn't take that plunge unless I knew that the smaller set was definiteley lacking or that it was a much better deal. If anyone has anything to say about this I'd apprecieate it, because the only info that I have gotten is from salesman and websites that are promoting it.

Cypress Drummer-Hey man. I use a Sabian AAXtreme 19" china cymbal. I've had it for a few years, and thats what I used on Get Rad. You're right, it is a really nice sounding China...it came out well on the recording. I just looked it up on Midwest Percussion's website (a place I buy from a lot) and they sell it for $159, but they also have it in smaller sizes. Cool well hope that helped
